Santa Ana winds contribute to wildfires every year

High winds play a crucial role in the rapid spread and intensification of wildfires, creating dangerous conditions that challenge firefighting efforts.

Wind provides an abundant supply of oxygen to the fire, fueling combustion and increasing the intensity of the flames. This additional oxygen allows the fire to burn hotter and spread more quickly.

One of the most dangerous aspects of wind-driven fires is the ability to carry burning embers long distances. These embers, also known as firebrands, can travel up to 2.5 miles ahead of the main fire front, igniting new spot fires and rapidly expanding the affected.

High winds push flames forward, causing the fire to advance at an alarming rate. This rapid progression can quickly overwhelm firefighting resources and make evacuation efforts more challenging.
