No two water losses are alike, including the categories they reside in and each situation must be treated based on the unique needs of the environment. When looking for possible contaminants to determine a category of loss you have to take into consideration the condition of the property you are working with and also the source of water
A Category 2 water loss refers to a source of water that contains a significant degree of chemical, biological, or physical contaminants and causes discomfort or sickness when exposed or consumed. Known as "Gray Water," this type of water damage carries microorganisms and nutrients of microorganisms and can cause illness.
Sources of Category 2 water losses include toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures, seepage due to hydrostatic failure, and water discharge from dishwashers or washing machines.
