After discovering mold growth, you have taken the proper steps to manage the situation. You've stopped water flow to the area, you've blocked it off, and you called SERVPRO MALIBU to come and handle the cleanup. Mold can be scary for people who don't know much about it. Black mold in particular looks intimidating, and only an expert knows for sure whether or not mold is actually toxic. Your employees want to know what is being done to keep them safe during work. Here are a few things that the cleanup team will do to keep you and your workers safe during the process.
Barriers: Containment barriers make sure that the mold is contained only to the work area. Heavy plastic sheeting and other materials are hung around the work area and sealed top to bottom so that the mold particles don't migrate to other areas of the office building.
HEPA Filters: HEPA filters create negative air pressure which prevents mold from dispersing to other areas. This also helps to maintain the air quality during mold removal as the air is vented outside of the containment area.
PPE: The cleanup team will wear personal protective equipment including full body suits, boots, shoe covers, gloves, eye protection, face masks with ventilators, and hoods. In addition to keeping the workers safe, it helps to contain the mold to the appropriate area as that equipment will be removed in a safe area to prevent additional mold spread.
Consider offering your team the option of working from home, if possible, if they are very concerned about the mold cleanup process. It is better for everyone to feel safe so that they can focus on their work.
When done by professionals, mold removal prevents further mold growth and is a pretty safe process. Communicate with your team to let them know that the mold cleanup is being handled with their wellness in mind.
