Should Appliances Exposed to Fire Be Used or Replaced?
11/7/2024 (Permalink)
Appliances, often located in kitchens or utility rooms, may seem intact at first glance. However, exposure to fire and its byproducts—smoke, heat, and soot—can affect their functionality and safety.
Smoke and soot are acidic by nature and can corrode internal wiring, motors, and other electrical parts. Even if the appliance was not directly in the fire, smoke exposure can cause long-term damage and affect its performance.
In most cases, replacing these appliances is the best option, especially for major items like refrigerators, stoves, and laundry machines.
