It’s funny how life turns out. There probably aren’t many kids at high school dreaming about becoming professional removers of mold or carpet cleaning technicians, but if you are interested in science, like to get out and about rather than being stuck behind a desk, want to develop useful skills and don’t mind getting dirty and dealing with some very unpleasant odors from time to time, working as a cleaning technician has a lot going for it. There are always different challenges and no two days are ever the same, working with SERVPRO Malibu.
All the guys pride themselves on doing a good job, whether you have a carpet that needs a deep clean, or a full cleanup and restoration after a major incident. Recently, SERVPRO were called in to a job where a leak in an apartment building had been repaired but mold had developed in the communal areas over several floors.
A senior technician visited the building, inspected the visible patches of mold and drew up a plan of action.
When the operatives arrived, they donned protective clothing and set up barriers between the contaminated and non-contaminated areas with special protective entrances to accommodate the needs of residents of the building. Large sections of the drywall and ceiling were removed to expose the extent of the mold growth and contaminated sections were bagged up for safe disposal.
Operatives with the AMRT (Applied Microbial Remediation Technician) qualification from the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) applied antimicrobials to the areas affected by mold. An industrial sized HEPA vacuum was employed, one floor at a time along, with HEPA air scrubbers to remove the spores. SERVPRO got the job done on schedule and with the minimum of fuss and inconvenience to the regular users of the building.
Within a couple of days, two of the team were dealing with a flooded basement, one was attending a course on upholstery and fabric cleaning, another was involved with checking and servicing items of cleaning equipment and restocking vehicles so they were ready for the next call out.
Studying all the techniques for dealing with the different aspects of clean up operations is all part and parcel of the job. All technicians are encouraged to expand their knowledge and areas of expertise by on the job training and attending more formal courses. Even after gaining initial certificates, there is always more to learn and continuing education is a must to keep up with new developments. Professional cleaning is a job that can provide a great deal of satisfaction. You often go into someone’s home where there is serious damage and destruction, get the situation under control, and often surprise people by what you are able to save and restore and help get their lives back on track. So if you think they can help you recover from fire or water damage or your air conditioning, carpets, curtains and upholstered furniture could benefit from a restorative deep clean, call SERVPRO of MALIBU today.
