Incorrect Window Installation Can Damage Your Home
11/29/2024 (Permalink)
Leaking window caused water damage and mold growth
One of the most common issues associated with improperly installed windows is water leakage. Poorly fitted windows or improperly sealed frames can allow rainwater to seep into the structure. Once water enters your walls, floors, or ceilings, it creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew to thrive, potentially posing health risks to occupants. Continuous exposure to moisture can lead to wood rot, compromising the integrity of your home. Poorly installed windows can allow water to infiltrate the foundation of your home, leading to cracks and other damage that could compromise the entire structure. Avoid these risks by hiring professionals, choosing the right materials, and conducting regular inspections to ensure your windows perform at their best for years to come. How Long Term Leak Can Devastate Your Subfloor Plywood
11/29/2024 (Permalink)
Damaged subflooring due to long term water damage
Water leaks in a home are more than just an inconvenience; they can lead to significant structural damage over time, especially when the problem goes undetected or unresolved for an extended period. One of the most vulnerable areas in your home to long-term water exposure is the subfloor, particularly if it’s made of plywood. Subfloor plywood is a structural component that sits beneath your finished flooring, providing a stable base for materials like hardwood, tile, or carpet. It plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and stability of your floors. However, as sturdy as it might be, plywood is particularly susceptible to damage when exposed to moisture over long periods. Plywood that remains wet for extended periods is prone to rot. Fungal growth can set in, breaking down the wood fibers and causing the plywood to decay. Once rot takes hold, it can spread quickly, further deteriorating the subfloor and potentially spreading to adjacent structural elements. Rot not only weakens the subfloor but can also lead to unpleasant odors and even health hazards due to mold growth. Where there’s moisture, mold and mildew are likely to follow. Mold can grow both on the surface and within the layers of the plywood, making it difficult to completely eradicate. Mold not only damages the subfloor but also poses serious health risks. Can Water Damage Cause Wood Rot?
11/1/2024 (Permalink)
Wood rod caused by long term roof leak
Wood rot is a type of decay caused by fungi that digest the cellulose and lignin in wood, leading to deterioration. The primary conditions for wood rot include moisture, oxygen, and a suitable temperature. There are two main types of wood rot: Dry Rot: Despite its name, dry rot requires moisture to start but can spread in relatively dry conditions once it has taken hold. The fungus responsible for dry rot, Serpula lacrymans, can cause extensive damage as it breaks down the wood fibers, leaving it brittle and crumbly. Wet Rot: This type of rot occurs when wood is exposed to high levels of moisture for prolonged periods. Wet rot fungi, such as Coniophora puteana, thrive in damp environments and cause the wood to feel soft and spongy. Wet rot is typically localized to areas where water ingress is a problem. Wood rot compromises the strength of wooden components, such as beams, joists, and supports. As the wood decays, it loses its load-bearing capacity, which can lead to sagging floors, collapsing walls, and even complete structural failure. Wood rot is a serious threat to the longevity and safety of wooden structures. Recognizing the signs, and taking proactive preventive measures, you can protect your investment and ensure the structural integrity of your building. Call SERVPRO of Malibu 310-456-2135

Main Reasons for Water Damage at Homes

Roof leak can cause a damages to the structure if not corrected quickly.
But what are the main sources of water damage in our homes?
Plumbing Failures Leaky pipes, burst hoses, and damaged fixtures can release gallons of water into your home, causing extensive damage to walls, floors, and belongings. Aging pipes, corrosion, high water pressure, and poor installation are common contributors to plumbing failures.
Roof leak Missing or damaged shingles, deteriorated flashing, or clogged gutters can allow rainwater to seep into the attic or walls, leading to water damage and potential structural issues. Regular roof inspections and maintenance are crucial in preventing such leaks.
Appliance malfunctions Household appliances, such as washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters, are convenient but can also be sources of water damage. Over time, these appliances may develop leaks or hose failures, causing water to spill onto floors and seep into surrounding areas. Proper maintenance and timely replacement of worn-out components are essential preventive measures.
Natural Disasters floods, storms, hurricanes, and heavy rains pose a significant risk of water damage to homes. Rising water levels, flash floods, and roof damage caused by extreme weather conditions can lead to extensive property damage. While these disasters may be unpredictable, taking preventive steps like installing proper drainage systems and reinforcing vulnerable areas can mitigate risks.
HVAC Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can also be sources of water damage. Clogged condensate drains or malfunctioning units can cause water buildup, leading to leaks and moisture intrusion. Regular maintenance and inspections of HVAC systems are crucial to prevent such issues.
Home maintenance Neglecting routine home maintenance can exacerbate the risk of water damage. Failure to address small leaks, cracks in the foundation, or improperly sealed windows and doors can lead to gradual water seepage and eventual damage to walls, ceilings, and floors.
Whether it's maintaining plumbing systems, conducting roof inspections, or servicing household appliances, staying proactive can save homeowners from the distress and expenses associated with water damage.

What cuases a mold to grow?
3/1/2023 (Permalink)
Dishwasher leak an detected an caused significant mold growth behind it damaging cabinets
Mold can grow in any area where moisture or dampness is present. Mold isn’t a slow-growing problem. It can start growing in your home in as little as 24 hours!
We’ve compiled a list of some of the most common sources of mold growth within the home. Read on to discover what you can keep an eye out for to keep your home mold-free:
Humidity: Humidity in the air can allow mold to develop quickly within the home. Humidifiers, dryers, and even the stove or the shower can cause humidity levels to rise. Try to keep your home’s humidity between 30 and 50% to avoid any unwanted mold.
Leaking roof: Rain or flood water can enter your home through your roof, causing excessive humidity and allowing mold to thrive. Improper seals, clogged drains and insufficient or faulty roofing materials can all allow water to leak into your home. Have your roof inspected and repaired when damage is present at least once a year to prevent unwanted moisture from creating mold.
Leaking appliances: Faulty appliances can create a mold nightmare when left unresolved. Equipment like your dishwasher, air conditioner, fridge and any other appliances that use water can malfunction, resulting in hidden moisture that allows mold to grow in places that aren't visible. If any of your appliances begin to leak water, turn off your home’s main water source and immediately clean up any standing water to prevent mold growth.
Flooding: Flooding can result in a large-scale mold infestation. Mold can grow in floods when conditions such as power outages, hot temperatures and, of course, excess flood water are present. Mold and standing water should be dealt with by a professional in the field of repair and remediation to ensure the best possible outcome in getting your house back in good condition.
We are the experts to call when you find mold lurking in your home! Call us at the earliest convenience so we can act fast to ensure your property is free of mold.
How Do We Remove Mold?
1/25/2023 (Permalink)
Water damage resulted in a mold growth behind the bathroom vanity
Removing mold is the primary function of the IICRC-certified remediation team arriving at the house to help. Without removing the surface mold found throughout the house, the situation worsens, and microbial colonization spreads to sensitive hosting materials of the property. There are multiple remediation options based on factors like the severity of the infestation and the location of damaged construction materials. Approaches include:
- Surface Treatment
- Abrasive Cleaning
- Sanding
- Controlled Demolition
Both signs that mold damage might exist, and one of the more challenging obstacles of remediation is the harsh, musty smell generated by active colonization. Spore activity can create a discernible odor that is strongest closer to the infestation. For this reason, homeowners can often use this sign to indicate hidden mold growth. Remediation professionals utilize deodorizing equipment, oxidation, and masking products to help.
Microbial growth overwhelms and destroys organic matter used as a host. Over time, these structural elements degrade and deteriorate, requiring replacement to restore integrity. Moreover, controlled demolition is often a more direct and proven method for removing set-in mold colonies from porous materials.

Get to know your options and make sure to read their reviews from their website and ask for certifications. Water damage restoration is not something that anyone can do, in fact, the proper equipment and chemicals aren’t even available to those who are not properly trained, licensed, and insured in this field. These licenses and certifications cost thousands and thousands of dollars each year to renew, not to mention the countless hours to get trained. Someone not trained properly will not know how to completely dry a structure or prevent mold growth.
Hiring an amateur or someone who considers themselves a handyman (or plumber with water damage experience) will lead to future problems and a bigger bill in the long run.
Often the costs are triple what a normal emergency restoration company would charge in the first place. SERVPRO has systems in place to guarantee accurate, fair, and consistent pricing using Xactimate. If you are filing your water damage as an insurance claim then the bill will be approved, finalized, and processed efficiently through both SERVPRO and your insurance adjuster to make sure it is accurate, fair, and correct.
By calling SERVPRO during a large local weather event, you will automatically be put into the system and you will be seen by either us or a “Storm Team” who come to our area from other states to help with large-scale disaster recovery.

Water Damage
3/1/2022 (Permalink)
Roof leak created severe damages to the structure
When a pipe bursts, a drain backs up, or a flood occurs in your home, it can be hard to see past the mess. A million questions will run through your mind. Like "What do I do?"
There is no doubt about it. Water damage is extremely stressful, and the more you know about it, the better you will be able to decide how to address it. Here are five things that every homeowner needs to know about water damage.
- There are different insurance policies for flood damage and water damage.
You might think that water is water, whether it is from flooding or a burst pipe, but flood damage is not covered under homeowner’s insurance. If you live in an area likely to experience flooding, you will probably already have a separate policy through the National Flood Insurance Policy (NFIP). When you report the claim to the insurance company, make sure to specify whether the claim is for water damage or for flood damage, so they can begin adjusting your claim correctly.
- Not all water damage is covered by your insurance.
It is a good idea to look over your insurance policy and familiarize yourself with any exclusion to your water damage coverage. For instance, most policies cover sudden damage, like water damage from a really bad storm or from an overflowing washing machine. On the other hand, any water damage that happens because you didn’t maintain the property may be excluded, as well as gradual leaks that caused water damage over time.
- Once water damage has happened; the clock is ticking before it gets worse.
When your property has been water damaged, you don’t have the luxury of waiting around for a convenient time to start the cleanup. Secondary damage from mold growth can present serious health effects associated with mold in the living environment.
Mold spores are everywhere, but they need moisture and a nutrient source to grow. And that is exactly what your wet carpet or drywall offers.
To prevent mold growth, you will need to get your property completely dry again within that 24-48-hour window. To do this, you will need to contact a company that specializes in water damage restoration and emergency water extraction. They will have the professional water removal equipment and drying equipment to get the job done as quickly as possible. Many have 24-hour a day emergency hotline, so you can start recovering your property almost immediately.
- Your insurance company needs to know right away.
It is a good idea to call your insurance company right away when you discover water damage. Your insurance agent can start the claims process immediately, as well as guide you through the first steps you will need to take to protect your property from more damage, like stopping the source of the water at the main water turnoff.
- The pollution level of the water is important.
Water damage is categorized as one of three levels by how polluted the water source was that caused the damage.
Category 1: Water from a clean water source, like a freshwater line for a dishwasher. This water will not cause illness or any ill effects.
Category 2: Water that may cause illness through contact. It may have bacteria in it,
Even though water may start out as Category 1, that doesn’t mean it will stay that way. Any contamination that the water touches, such as dirty carpeting or soil from the ground, can change water damage Category to 2 or even Category 3. And since standing breeds bacteria, the longer the water is around, the worse the contamination of your property.
More contamination can mean that the restoration team will have to use more aggressive measures to clean your structure and property, and it might mean that soft furnishings, like your carpet and the carpet pad, may have to be discarded for your safety.
Water damage can be dangerous and expensive, so preventing water damage is an important part of home maintenance. But if you know the basics of what to do once it happens, you can prevent it from doing its worst.

What is a Dehumidifier?
1/27/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO Malibu clean and green drying equipment.
The Dehumidifier, also known as a Dehu for short, is mainly used on mitigation projects that pertain to water or mold damages in residential or commercial spaces.
Many do not realize that there is a science to drying out buildings and homes affected by water losses and the Dehumidifier plays a huge role in that drying process by raising the temperature.
The Dehumidifier has drying technology that helps control the humidity and stabilizes the environment which assists with evaporating the water in the air and from materials that are affected by the water. The Dehu basically sucks up the wet air and spits out dry air which then eventually drys out the location.
The Dehumidifier works best with Air Mover's and should be left running for 24 hr periods without interruption. It's like boiling a pot of water, once turned off, you have to start all over again to get to that boiling point.
The great Bleach question
11/30/2021 (Permalink)
We receive this question many times from concerned callers: "Can I just spray bleach on it?"
Using bleach to take care of mold was once recommended by agencies such as OSHA and the EPA. However, they have since been revised after research revealed that the "do-all, be-all cure" for killing microbial growth, actually had the opposite effect. First, let us take a look at how mold forms to understand why using bleach is not effective.
Mold needs water, food and typically a warm temperature to grow. This illustrates the first reason to call SERVPRO of Malibu: If mold is growing, chances are that the materials are wet. There has likely been a water loss of some sort, and until it is properly dried, mold will continue to grow.
The chlorine in bleach, due to its ionic composition, cannot penetrate porous surfaces. Porous surfaces include materials such as drywall, ceilings, wood, carpet and many others. Spraying bleach on the mold will only kill it on the surface. Many people do not know that mold actually has roots called hyphae. These roots will still remain in the porous material and eventually rise to the surface again. Remember that bleach contains both chlorine and water. The chlorine cannot make it below the surface - but the water can. Thus, you are actually replenishing the mold with one of the key things it needs to grow - water! Secondly, it will "bleach" the color, making it appear that the mold is gone. Again, this is only on the surface.
At SERVPRO of Malibu we use specialized products, designed to travel deep into porous surfaces to remove mold at its roots. Sometimes we cannot remove the mold from the material and the material must be completely removed from the home for the safety of you and your family. Our technicians are trained to differentiate between what can be safely cleaned and what cannot. In addition, live mold releases spores into the air. The air in your home may need to be treated with specialty equipment to make sure that all spores are removed.

Why You Should Hire a Mold Remediation Company?
11/2/2021 (Permalink)
3 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Mold Remediation Company
When a home in Pacific Palisades is devastated by water damage from floods, broken pipes, or leaks, a homeowner may end up having to pay for costly repairs. If you leave water damage untreated, your property becomes susceptible to mold. Mold colonies form when mold spores find optimal conditions to survive. When these colonies develop, they rot the natural construction materials of a building. You should hire a mold cleaning service if your building has untreated water damage and has become rotted due to mold. Signs of mold are:
- Rotting wood
- Falling bathroom tiles
- Visible green sludge on walls and ceilings
Here are three reasons you should hire a mold remediation service:
1. They Will Help You Find Hidden Mold
Bathroom tiles will fall when mold colonies consume the grout holding them up. Sometimes, mold can hide behind these tiles. A mold remediation company will first inspect your property to find hidden mold and hidden places with higher humidity levels.
2. They Will Dehumidify Your Property
After a leak or a flood, materials that are affected can remain damp even after the water has been cleaned away. Dampened construction materials are ideal hosts for mold, especially if they are located in a dark space. A mold cleaning company will help dehumidify your property to keep mold from rotting wood, drywall, or grout.
3. They Can Help Restore Your Property
A company specializing in remediation and cleaning services will help to restore materials that have mold damage. Along with dehumidifying, they can assist with repairing drywall, carpets, and paint. Depending on the severity of the damage, they can also help reconstruct entire rooms affected by mold.
If you have water damage that has been left untreated and has become a hotspot for mold, hire a mold cleaning company to assist you in cleanup and repairs. You can prevent costs from accruing by restoring water-damaged materials immediately. Contact a local water damage restoration service today to get started.

Malibu homeowners might think they have avoided disaster after removing water from a toilet overflow or pipe leak. What Qualifies SERVPRO Technicians for Water Removal?
SERVPRO tools and techniques take a systematic and scientific approach to water damage mitigation.
- Moisture measurement tools like sensors, meters, and infrared imaging are used to evaluate surfaces before, during, and after drying to ensure that items return to appropriate moisture levels.
- Extraction tools like wands and sump pumps are as much as 500 times more effective at eliminating water than drying alone.
- Drying equipment consists of centrifugal air movers that work in tandem with industrial-grade dehumidifiers to eliminate moisture from surfaces after extraction.
- EPA-registered antimicrobials are effective for both sanitation and odor control.
How Do SERVPRO Technicians Restore a Water-Damaged Bathroom?
In a clean water situation, SERVPRO technicians can work quickly to extract water from your bathroom floor, baseboards, drywall, and nearby carpeting. Techs can also evaluate wall studs and subfloors for signs of saturation with infrared cameras.

SERVPRO is here to help!
When an emergency happens, most people act immediately to try and minimize the amount of damage, which is understandable. Unfortunately, many people make the wrong choices and end up costing themselves and causing more damage than was originally there. After any emergency, your home should be inspected by a professional before making any restorations.
Fire and Smoke Damage:
- Inspect items carefully before utilizing them again: dishes, utensils, clothing, furniture, upholstery, and carpet
- Prop open your doors to help with air circulation
- Call a professional company such as SERVPRO of Malibu/Pacific Palisades/Topanga/Brentwood to come board and tarp up your damaged windows, doors, or roofs.
- DO NOT turn on any electrical appliances before having them inspected
- DO NOT wipe or try to clean any fire damage off walls, or ceilings
- Be care where you walk. It can initially be difficult to determine how much damage was done.
Water Damage:
- Open all furniture drawers, closet doors, and pieces of luggage to help speed up the drying process
- Remove valuable documents, books, and electronics to a dry space
- DO NOT walk into any rooms with standing water if the electricity is still on
- DO NOT use a regular household vacuum to try and suck up water
Although these tips can help alleviate initial problems, future damage can happen if you only stick to temporary fixes.

What is a Hydroxyl Generator?
3/7/2020 (Permalink)
SERVPRO uses hydroxyl during wildfires clean up.
Hydroxyl generators have proven to be effective for almost any odor. They are commonly used for treating odors caused by fire and smoke, water losses, mold and VOCs. This technology is regularly deployed on losses ranging from large big box retail and industrial fires to residential Category 2 and 3 water losses.
A Hydroxyl Generator is electrical equipment that generates Negative Radicals (-OH's) which are unsaturated molecules. These Hydroxyls carry an intensive charge that aggressively seeks saturation by ripping out a molecule from most pollutants present in the air and on surfaces.
Unlike ozone, atmospheric hydroxyls are safe for people, animals, plants and all sensitive materials like rubber, plastic, leather, vinyl, electronics, paper, and artwork. Contents can be wet while being deodorized without the risk of bleaching. Pollutants aggressively affected by Hydroxyls: VOC's, most organic-based odors and many inorganic as well, chemicals like H2S (hydrogen sulfide -- rotten eggs smell), single-cell live organisms (bacteria, viruses, mold spores), other pollutants and microbes.
Jobs can be streamlined when the contractor is able to deodorize while drying, cleaning and demoing. Both contents and structure can be treated at the same time, and as conditions permit, certain pack-out activities can be avoided or substantially reduced. In many cases, residents can stay in their home or businesses and remain open, while avoiding costly business interruption.
Fire Safety Plan
3/1/2020 (Permalink)
Make sure you have one working smoke alarm on every level of the home, as well as inside and outside each sleeping area.
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) collects data from a variety of sources to provide information and analyses on the status and scope of the fire problem in the United States (https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/)
In 2017 there were an estimated 1319,500 fires reported and 3,400 fire related fatalities . In the event of fire, TIME is the BIGGEST ENEMY and EVERY SECOND COUNTS! In less than 30 seconds a small flame can turn into a major fire. The most important thing you can do to prepare is have a Safety Escape Plan.
At Home Fire Safety Plan Tips
First and foremost, make sure you have one working smoke alarm on every level of the home, as well as inside and outside each sleeping area.
Have two ways out of each room, and the proper equipment to get out any upper story windows. Walk through each room in your home with your family and point out possible exits. Also, provide alternatives for anyone with a disability.
Once you have established the exits, practice and show children how to get out of the house and check the door for heat before opening it.
Know to crawl low to the floor when escaping to avoid toxic smoke. Practice dropping to your stomach and shimmying out under the smoke with your children.
Make a plan to help pets evacuate safely as well if possible.
Once you are out of the house, STAY OUT. DO NOT go back in the house. There could be unseen damage and danger. Call 911 immediately.
Know where to meet after the escape. Your meeting place should be near the front of your home so firefighters know you are out.
Practice, Practice, Practice your escape plan. It is recommended you practice at least twice a year. If you have young children it may require more than twice. Practicing can save the lives of you and your family.

Secondhand Smoke Damage
12/4/2019 (Permalink)
When wildfires cause damages to the houses on your street more likely your house will also be affected by ash and soot.
How to Get Your Insurance Company to Pay for Secondhand Smoke Damage
You know you're covered if a fire breaks out in your offices, but what if there's a fire in an adjacent building? Happily, some insurance policies will cover your losses if your, company has been impacted by a fire from a neighboring business. As you address smoke damage losses with your insurance company, make sure you complete the following steps.
Provide Thorough Documentation
There's a very good chance your insurance company will cover your losses, but for the best results, you need to keep track of what you've lost. Back up your claims with photographs of affected areas and items in your building. You should also plan to provide police and fire department reports when you file your claim. It's also a very good idea to collect and save all of the emails and documents you exchange with your insurance company. If you speak to representatives on the phone, keep a written record of those conversations.
Understand Your Policy
The more you know about your coverage, the better off you'll be when disaster strikes. As smoke moves through your building from adjacent properties, your walls, ceilings, carpeting, and equipment could be exposed to hidden soot damage. Work closely with your insurance company and restoration company to minimize your losses.
Seek Additional Help
Insurance companies operate with a focus on increasing profits while keeping costs down, as most other businesses do. However, if you believe that ambiguous wording is going to cost you thousands of dollars, you should talk to a public adjuster for help.
Why SERVPRO Recommends Pack-Out Services ?
12/4/2019 (Permalink)
When the main water supply line on the street broke mud and water traveled to the house causing damages to the property and contents.
Why SERVPRO Recommends Pack-Out Services ?
When flooded spaces are filled with furniture, boxes, and other stored items, our technicians spend much time shifting things around during remediation. Avoiding this distraction is one reason why SERVPRO offers a pack-out option, moving items to our production facility, POD or storage unit during the mitigation/water restoration project. Our on-site crew can pump and extract water without impediment after the move, speeding the process. Drying equipment works more efficiently when the humidity load in the affected spaces lessens with the move-out of wet contents.
Unwanted moisture in your Malibu home can damage furnishings, create unpleasant odors, and promote mold growth. We operate an essential service for fast-drying your property after water damage in Malibu,Topanga Canyon, Pacific Palisades and Brentwood. These matters are exceptionally time-sensitive with prolonged exposure to moisture, increasing the risks of permanent damage. SERVPRO is here to mitigate against further damages while restoring your home to its pre-incident condition.
Recovering articles you feared were ruined is the happy result of a successful pack-out. SERVPRO always operates from a restoration viewpoint, saving you time and money. Getting into Trouble
The babies now have full run of the house and it is interesting to watch them explore their surroundings.
They love playing hide and seek. They have a knack for scaring you when you least expect it. There have been several times in the last week that they hide somewhere and when you walk into the room they jump out of their hiding spot and make you scream. I am not ashamed to say they have scared me to the point of screaming and jumping back.
When they want you to hold them they climb up your legs causing a few shrieks and a little blood but then they are in your arms purring and nuzzling.
The laughter that they bring to the house is infectious and I love watching their shenanigans and the deep sleep they fall into after.
They got their second set of shots and are healthy and happy. I look forward to the following months to come.
How Quickly Will Fire Damage Restoration Companies Begin Working?
3/1/2019 (Permalink)
Fire Board Up
Our professional restoration company will come and scope or estimate the damage looking for protein residues, natural substance residue, and synthetic residue to get an estimate of the damage. Project managers will show up at your property to come up with a game plan and you’ll find it’ll be emotionally reassuring to have a team in place to help begin picking up the pieces. They’ll take your building from a charred ruin to a working home again.
They’ll begin the emergency board up process right away if needed. Once the fire marshal clears the area or says it is fine to be there, we will use plywood to board up your windows. Plywood is the cheapest option to board windows.
When our professionals are boarding your windows, they have options to secure it. They can use concrete screws, anchor screws, wingnuts or lag screws with anchors.
Our crew members will measure your windows and once the windows are measured the plywood will be cut according to the measurements. To board the windows in concrete, the technicians will use a masonry bit and screws and fasten the board to the house. If your house has aluminum or other sidings, we will use a stud finder to search for the window frame stud. The holes from the plywood will line up with the center of the studs. We will then pre-drill holes in the plywood and then drill through to secure it to the building. You may notice that these boards are doubled up for larger windows and doors.
Emergency board up is critical to your home. Not only does it protect your property from the weather, but it also discourages vandals from breaking into the property as well as helps with structural stabilization. Besides, it’s mandated by the insurance companies.
Being Competent In What You Do

Water and Mold Damage
SERVPRO of Malibu / Topanga Canyon / Pacific Palisades was contacted regarding a water loss that was not remediated properly from another vendor. Mold was discovered that was not addressed during the initial dry down by the former restoration company. When we arrived on site walls were cut open and mold was present in the area. We provided a 5 man crew and set up protective barriers around the affected areas, with air filtration devices. All ceilings and walls were removed to remediate the cavities where the damage occurred.
Our company came to an incomplete water damage project which created mold contamination and in 4 days, our crew provided mold remediation services, completed the unfinished portion of water damage to the building, and passed the post-remediation clearance testing, all by the end of that week. The management was pleased with our prompt and efficient process for such a large project.
7 weeks and Totally Potty-Trained

Learning to Play
Blaze and Stormy are 7 weeks.
These cats are little hunters and they love chasing red dots. They are still world-class nappers and love to snuggle up together or with any human around. They are not shy! These fur babies are still unsure of what their bodies can do so it is beyond funny watching them play and interact with each other. We love kissing their baby-pink noses and their eyes are no longer blue.
They are eating both wet and dry food and are completely potty trained. SOOOOO HAPPY! The best was watching them try and navigate their water dish. Like I said before, they love baths so there was a lot of water clean-up. Thank goodness we work for SERVPRO.
They want to be a part of everything! Watching us type up an estimate while jumping on the keyboard and increasing the number of air movers we placed.
Looking forward to the next big feats!!!
Getting Bigger...

Getting Bigger...
So Blaze and Stormy are getting bigger... they are 4 weeks now and love their bottles. When you pick them up while they are sleeping they let out the cutest meow of protest but love to be held. They are getting curious about the dogs in the house but are a little scared of them.
They are in the office with us during the day because they are still eating every 3 hours.
They are starting to play with us and each other. They are funny to watch especially when they get moving and then fall over like little drunk people.
I can not wait for the day that they are able to use the litter box 100% on their own. Wiping their little tushies is kinda gross but fulfilling at the same time. They actually like warm baths, but then they are ready for anything.
I cannot wait for the next two weeks to see what happens...
An Unexpected Surprise

The things you find during water mitigation
On September 9th, 2018 we got a call from a customer in Malibu saying that her front yard was flooded and water was entering her home. We arrived 45 min later and while cleaning up the mess, we noticed 5 baby kittens submerged in the water. Mrs. D ( the customer ) was horrified to find that 3 of them were deceased. She could not care for the newborns and asked us to please help them.
We wrapped the babies up in warm towels and brought them to a vet. The vet said that they were not quite 2 weeks old and weighed 4.5 oz and 4.3 oz and that we were going to need to bottle feed them until we could find a rescue to take them. They gave us some bottles and formula and off we went.
They were not taking the bottle so I researched how to feed newborn kittens and found that dropper feeding was the best for this age.
Needless to say, we are keeping them and will update you on this journey.
